US Patent 8,851,738
October 7, 2014
A dough blender includes a handle and a plurality of tines. The tines may be in the form of thin plates having channels between them. A scraper is provided on the tines, attached to the blender to be moved across the tines to scrape food particles from the channels between the tines.

Electronically scanned optical coherence tomography with frequency modulated signals

US Patent 8,854,627
October 7, 2014
An improved Optical Coherence Domain Reflectometry (OCDR) system is provided. One embodiment of this OCDR system outputs a detector signal carrying image depth information on multiple modulation frequencies, where each modulation frequency corresponds to a different image depth. The image depth information from the detector signal may be resolved by tuning to the desired modulation frequency. Another system for imaging body tissue uses multiple frequency modulators such that the light beam does not travel from an optical fiber to free space.

Container stacking system with universal members

US Patent 8,851,287
October 7, 2014
Universal members placed between containers having different stacking patterns permit stacking of these containers regardless of the type of container positioned as the bottom container. The universal members include an appropriate thickness and a plurality of openings configured to receive the different stacking patterns. Depending on the containers being stacked, the universal members may take different forms. For example, one universal member may include T-shaped openings while another universal member may include rectangular-shaped openings with offset members.

Alternative audio content presentation in a media content receiver

US Patent 8,850,500
September 30, 2014
Presented herein is a method of presenting alternative audio content for an audio/visual content segment, such as a television program or a motion picture. In the method, the audio/visual content segment is received into a media content receiver. The audio/visual content segment includes primary visual content and primary audio content. A request to receive alternative audio content for the audio/visual content segment is transmitted. After transmitting the request, the alternative audio content is received into the media content receiver. The primary audio content is replaced with the alternative audio content to generate a revised audio/visual content segment. The revised audio/visual content is transferred for presentation to a user.

Accessing electronic program guide information over a backchannel communication path

US Patent 8,850,488
September 30, 2014
A systems and methods access electronic program guide (EPG) information via a backchannel link. An exemplary embodiment receives a first portion of EPG information residing in a data channel of a program content stream, establishes a communication link between a media device and a remote EPG content system, and receives a second portion of EPG information from the remote EPG content system via the established communication link.

Percutaneous implantation of an electrical stimulation lead for stimulating dorsal root ganglion

US Patent 8,849,422
September 30, 2014
A method of implanting an electrical stimulation lead to stimulate a dorsal root ganglion includes providing an electrical stimulation lead having a distal end, a proximal end, a longitudinal length, electrodes disposed along the distal end of the lead, terminals disposed on the proximal end of the body, a plurality of conductors electrically coupling the electrodes to the terminals. The method further includes sequentially inserting a series of hollow introducers into the back of a patient to open a passage to the dorsal root ganglion. Each introducer in the series has an inner diameter larger than an inner diameter of a preceding introducer in the series. The method also includes implanting the electrical stimulation lead through the passage formed using the series of hollow introducers. Upon implantation of the electrical stimulation lead, at least one of the plurality of electrodes is adjacent the dorsal root ganglion.

Method and system for hard disk emulation and cryptographic acceleration on a blade server

US Patent 8,850,223
September 30, 2014
An inventive apparatus that integrates the operation of a hard disk emulator and a cryptographic accelerator on a single blade server card. An application with cryptographic operations can off load computationally intensive calculations to the cryptographic accelerator so that the speed at which the application performs actions can be increased significantly. Typically, the hard disk emulator is a flash memory component and the accelerator can perform at least modular exponentiation calculations. One bus is employed for communication between the hard disk emulator and the accelerator. Another bus is employed to communicate with other resources off the card. Often, the card is configured to operate as one of a several blade servers in a chassis.

Electrodes for enhancing stimulation penetration of patient tissue

US Patent 8,849,419
September 30, 2014
A paddle lead assembly for providing electrical stimulation of patient tissue includes a paddle body having a plurality of electrodes. At least one of the plurality of electrodes defines a removed center portion. At least one lead body is coupled to the paddle body. At least one terminal is disposed on each of the at least one lead bodies.

Improved connector contacts for electrical stimulation systems

US Patent 8,849,396
September 30, 2014
A port for receiving a lead is defined at a first end of a connector housing of a connector assembly for an implantable electrical medical device. A lumen extends from the port along a longitudinal axis of the connector housing. At least one of a plurality of connector contacts disposed in the connector housing couples to a terminal of the lead when the lead is received by the connector housing. The connector contacts include spring contact probes spaced apart from one another along the longitudinal axis of the connector housing with at least a portion of each of the spring contact probes extending along a first transverse axis into the lumen of the connector housing. The plurality of spring contact probes physically contact the terminals of the lead solely along the first transverse axis when the lead is received by the connector housing.

Multi-channel connector for brain stimulation system

US Patent 8,849,415
September 30, 2014
An implantable connector for use with a neurological device and a lead extension includes a male connector having a plurality of electrical contacts axially arranged along the connector, insulated from each other. The connector also includes a female connector having one or more channels axially disposed therein and a plurality of conductors axially arranged on the female connector. The plurality of conductors are electrically insulated from each other, and at least one indexing element is disposed adjacent to one or more of the channels. The indexing element allows the male connector to be received into the one or more channels in a defined orientation relative to the channel, thereby forming at least two electrical connections along two or more axial positions. Often the neurological device is a brain stimulating and recording lead. The male and female connectors are often fastened together with a screw or by twist-locking the two members together.
