Larry Graham has been included in the listing every year since 2006, while David Lowe has been listed each year since 2008. Mark Walters has been named either to the Super Lawyers list or the Rising Stars list every year since 2006, and Mark Lorbiecki has been named to the Super Lawyers list every year since 2011. Larry Graham Featured in King County Bar Association Profile

LGJ attorney Larry Graham has been honored as the attorney profiled this month in the King County Bar Association’s monthly periodical, the Bar Bulletin. The King County Bar Association publishes a profile each month for a prominent lawyer within King County, and the firm is excited that the March, 2015 edition chronicles the career of Larry Graham.

LGJ Files Amicus Brief at the U.S. Supreme Court in Support of the Petitioner in Commil USA v. Cisco

LGJ is proud to have filed an amicus brief on behalf of The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) in Commil USA v. Cisco, No. 13-896, a case currently accepted for review by the United States Supreme Court on writ of certiorari from the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. In Commil, the issue presented is “[w]hether the Federal Circuit erred in holding that a defendant’s belief that a patent is invalid is a defense to induced infringement under 35 U.S.C. § 271(b).” The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) is a trade association representing over 1,100 companies, academic institutions, and biotechnology centers. BIO members are involved in the research and development of biotechnological healthcare, agricultural, environmental, and industrial products. In the healthcare sector alone, the biotechnology industry has more than 370 therapeutic products currently in clinical trials being studied to treat more than 200 diseases. The vast majority of BIO members are small companies that have yet to bring a product to market and attain profitability.

Five New Attorneys Join LGJ

LGJ is excited to announce the addition of attorneys Bruce Black, John Branch, Patrick Turner, John Martin and Karl Hefter to the firm. Bruce Black, joining as a member, holds a B.S. in Chemistry and a Ph.D in Physical Chemistry, and specializes in domestic and international patent procurement, client counseling, licensing, and due diligence for innovations in the areas of medical devices, chemistry, physics, materials science, biotechnology, mechanical arts, and software. John Branch, joining as a member, holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and specializes in software, electronics and computer-related technologies. Patrick Turner holds a B.S. in Cellular & Molecular Biology and a Masters in Medical Engineering and specializes in domestic and international patent procurement in the areas of medical devices, chemistry, physics, materials science, biotechnology, mechanical arts, and software. John Martin holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering and specializes in patent procurement and opinion writing, focusing his practice on software and electrical arts. Karl Hefter hold a B.S. in Computer Engineering and specializes in drafting and prosecuting utility and design patents in the United States and in many foreign countries, particularly related to computer software and hardware technologies. With these additions, LGJ presently has 18 attorneys dedicated to providing intellectual property legal services in virtually all fields of technical endeavor.

Two New Attorneys Join LGJ

LGJ is excited to announce the addition of attorneys Gary Myles and Jeff Patterson to the firm. Gary Myles holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics, with a practice emphasizing biotechnology patent prosecution. Jeff Patterson holds a Ph.D. in Physics and practices patent prosecution in the computer, electrical, and mechanical arts Gary Myles joins the firm as a biotechnology patent attorney with a wealth of experience. Gary drafts and prosecutes patent applications for a broad range of life sciences inventions and develops intellectual property strategies for university, non-profit, start-up, and mid- and large-cap bio/pharma clients in the life sciences and agricultural industries. Gary also formulates freedom-to-operate, non-infringement and invalidity opinions and performs intellectual property due diligence reviews. His areas of technological expertise include molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, virology, cell biology, immunology, nanotechnology, and personalized medicine. Gary’s experience includes post-doctoral research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle and graduate research at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Jeff Patterson joins the firm as a registered patent attorney specializing in preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications in the computer, electrical, and mechanical arts. Jeff holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2001, where he studied pion-proton interactions. Prior to pursuing patent law, Jeff was employed as a radiation physicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as well as other research facilities.
