NLP-based entity recognition and disambiguation
US Patent 8,594,996
November 26, 2013
Methods and systems for entity recognition and disambiguation using natural language processing techniques are provided. Example embodiments provide an entity recognition and disambiguation system (ERDS) and process that, based upon input of a text segment, automatically determines which entities are being referred to by the text using both natural language processing techniques and analysis of information gleaned from contextual data in the surrounding text. In at least some embodiments, supplemental or related information that can be used to assist in the recognition and/or disambiguation process can be retrieved from knowledge repositories such as an ontology knowledge base. In one embodiment, the ERDS comprises a linguistic analysis engine, a knowledge analysis engine, and a disambiguation engine that cooperate to identify candidate entities from a knowledge repository and determine which of the candidates best matches the one or more detected entities in a text segment using context information.
Forkpocketed tank container
US Patent 8,590,720
November 26, 2013
A framework for support of a tank within the framework includes four corner posts joined by four top rails and four bottom rails together defining a rectangular prism. At least one of the rails includes a forkpocket assembly. The forkpocket assembly includes at least one forkpocket protection plate. The forkpocket protection plate defines a pair of forkpocket tubes configured to receive tines of a forklift. The forkpocket tubes are situated at a vertical forkpocket height selected to be removed from the tank vertical profile of a framework profile. A vertical protection plate extends vertically over a portion of the tank vertical profile of a framework profile.
Non-woven laying machine and a method for laying a non-woven fabric
US Patent 8,590,111
November 26, 2013
In order to produce air-laid non-woven fabrics with an adjustable strength ratio of the production direction and 90 degrees to the production direction, two non-woven laying machines are set at an angle to the production direction.
Straight peeler
US Patent 8,584,581
November 19, 2013
The vegetable peeler for separating the peel from fruits and vegetables includes a handle, a tool head or blade mount, and a blade. The handle is configured to be able to receive and store at least one spare cutting blade such that the blade can be removed from the tool head and replaced with a different blade stored in the handle.
Apparatus and methods for high-speed video presentation
US Patent 8,588,575
November 19, 2013
A method of presenting video frames of a video segment at a non-standard speed is provided. A frame count is set to an initial value. For each video frame that is to be presented, a time offset relative to a staring time within the video segment is generated. The time offset may be generated by multiplying the frame count by two values. The first value is a length of time for which each selected frame is to be presented to the user, and the second value is the presentation rate of the video segment relative to a normal presentation rate. A video frame within the video segment corresponding to the time offset within the video segment is selected and output for presentation. The frame count is then updated, and the process is repeated for the next frame to be presented.

Insole with reinforcement element
US Patent 8,584,376
November 19, 2013
An insole which is substantially adapted to the profile of a human foot and comprises, in the mid-foot region, an elastically deformable arch facing the foot, characterized in that a reinforcement element is located on the side of the insole facing away from the foot in the region of the arch, said reinforcement element being made of a different material with a greater stiffness than the material of the insole and having a convex shape.
Apparatus, systems and methods for remote storage of media content events
US Patent 8,584,178
November 12, 2013
Techniques for facilitating recording of media content events by media devices on remote storage devices are described. Some embodiments provide a remote storage manager as part of a media device, such as a set-top box. In one embodiment, the remote storage manager causes a media content event to be recorded on a remote persistent storage device by receiving the media content event from a program distributor, and then transmitting the media content event to the remote persistent storage device. In another embodiment, the remote storage manager instructs the remote persistent storage device to obtain the media content event from the program distributor, so that the remote persistent storage device can record the media content event without the media content event first being received by the remote storage manager.
Car parking administration system
US Patent
October 29, 2013
A car parking system for charging motor vehicles with electrical energy, with at least one charging station which is capable of being coupled electrically to a motor vehicle in order to charge a charge storage unit of this motor vehicle, wherein this charging station has associated with it at least one parking space for temporarily parking the motor vehicle to be charged. According to the invention the car parking system has at least one central processing unit which is separate from the charging station and which communicates in terms of data with the charging station, wherein data characteristic of the motor vehicle are capable of being transferred by way of a communication link existing at least temporarily between the central processing unit and the charging station.
Rotary grater
US Patent 8,567,704
October 29, 2013
A rotary grater includes a main body having a portion of one side formed from a resilient material. An internal grating barrel includes a plurality of grating teeth and is configured to grate cheese or other food items. The barrel is positioned for rotation inside the main body, such that cheese within the main body can be urged against the barrel by pressure against the resilient material, which will collapse as the food item decreases in size.
Night light
US Patent 8,569,971
October 29, 2013
A night-light (100) having a light source (104) and control circuitry (110), which is arranged to receive a temperature input comprising a measure of temperature measured by a temperature sensor (208). The light source (104) is arranged to emit light in a first color when the temperature measured by a temperature sensor (208) is within a predetermined range and to emit light in an alternative color when the temperature measured by the temperature sensor (208) is outside the predetermined range. The night-light may be of particular use in babies’ nurseries.
