High-speed secure content transfer to SD card from kiosk
US Patent 8,977,783
March 10, 2015
A system and a method are disclosed for quickly and securely transferring media files to an SD card from a kiosk. The kiosk includes a customer interface module for receiving a selection of a media file to transfer, a transaction module for accepting payment, a media file processing module for preparing the media file to be written to the SD card, and a high-speed secure SD card writer that can write to both an unsecure area and a secure area of the SD card. All data is written to the unsecure area before data is written to the secure area to improve speed. Optionally, the kiosk includes a firmware update module for distributing firmware updates through the SD cards, and the ability to play previews to attract customers and entertain them while transferring media files to the SD card.
Metal-on-metal capacitor with diagonal feedline
US Patent 8,976,506
March 10, 2015
A design for an improved metal-on-metal capacitor design is described. The design includes a substantially diagonal feedline (411, 412, 413) in each metal layer. Each metal layer (21, 22, 23) comprises two sets of metal fingers which are interleaved. Each set of fingers comprises two subsets of fingers and the subsets of fingers are arranged at right angles to each other. Fingers in a first of the two sets are all connected to the diagonal feedline, while fingers in the other set are connected together via fingers at the periphery of the device. The design is repeated in adjacent layers, where the design may be identical or rotated (e.g by 180.degree.) between adjacent metal layers.
Portfolio optimization for media merchandizing
US Patent 8,977,701
March 10, 2015
Embodiments are directed towards modifying when to publish content to a channel for distribution based on monitored actions associated with previously published content. A plurality of publishing slots may be determined from a plurality of time slots. Each publishing slot may indicate a time to publish content to the channel. Content may be published to the channel at each of the plurality of publishing slots. User actions associated with the published content may be monitored. The plurality of publishing slots may be ranked based on these monitored actions. At least one of the plurality of publishing slots may be modified to a different time slot based on the rankings of the publishing slots. The publication of content at a publishing slot may be delayed based on a success of other content published at a previous publishing slot being above a threshold.
System and method for initiating video phone calls
US Patent 8,976,227
March 10, 2015
The disclosed embodiments include a system and method for initiating a video phone call using a standard phone device. For instance, in one embodiment, a method for initiating a video phone call from a first party to a second party is disclosed. The method includes receiving a call from the first party. The call is initiated using a standard phone device. The method determines whether the call is a voice call or a call request to initiate a video call. In response to a determination that the call is a call request to initiate a video call, the method terminates the call, initiates a call to a video phone device of the first party and also a communication device of the second party. The method establishes a communication session between the video phone device of the first party and the communication device of the second party.
System and method for computer power control
US Patent 8,972,756
March 3, 2015
Provided herein is a computer implemented system for managing power supply for an electronic device. The system includes computer a learning component that is trained and constructs models according to usage patterns of the electronic device, a component providing a first phase of model building relating to usage of the electronic device; and a forecasting component that employs the learning component and models to generate predictions relating to usage of the electronic device.
Method, apparatus, and manufacture for document writing and annotation with virtual ink
US Patent 8,971,568
March 3, 2015
A method, apparatus, and manufacture for writing and annotation is provided. An image is provided on a surface. Each time invisible ink is deposited on the surface, the location of the invisible ink deposited on the surface is detected before the invisible ink vanishes from the surface. The invisible ink automatically vanishes from the surface in less than one minute from the time that the invisible ink is deposited on the surface. Location information is stored based on each detected location. The projected image is modified based, at least in part, on the stored location information.
Method of making a lead for an implantable stimulation system
US Patent 8,966,745
March 3, 2015
A lead assembly includes a lead with a distal end and a proximal end. The lead includes a plurality of electrodes disposed at the distal end and a plurality of terminals disposed at the proximal end. The lead also defines at least one central lumen and a plurality of outer lumens. The central and outer lumens extend from the proximal end to the distal end such that the plurality of outer lumens extend laterally from the at least one central lumen. The lead further includes a plurality of conductive wires. Each conductive wire couples at least one of the plurality of electrodes electrically to at least one of the plurality of terminals. At least two conductive wires are disposed in each of the plurality of outer lumens.
