Tool to generate active page interface instructions

US Patent 8,060,861
November 15, 2011
A system and method for generating a script conforming with the interactive television standard for embedment in an entertainment device includes retrieving a header file containing definitions of functions present in the interactive television standard. A code file includes a string that does not conform to the interactive television standard for code. The string is broken into substrings based on the presence of the “;” character. In substrings with a “typedef” keyword, a data type is selected based upon occurring immediately succeeding the “typedef” keyword up to the “;” character and creating variables with values representative of the data type. Automatically selecting from a plurality of strings in the header, a suitable string in accord with the variables creates resulting substring in a form acceptable according to the interactive television standard. The resulting code is stored in a memory storage for execution by the entertainment device.

Inference of turbulence hazard from proximity to radar turbulence measurement

US Patent 8,059,024
November 15, 2011
Systems and methods for conveying turbulence hazards to a flight crew. An exemplary weather radar system includes a three-dimensional buffer, a processor, and a display. The processor receives weather radar reflectivity values, stores the received weather radar reflectivity values into a three-dimensional buffer, generates and stores turbulence values into cells of the three-dimensional buffer based on the stored respective reflectivity values, and generates first display icons for cells that are located within a predefined threshold distance from a cell in the three-dimensional buffer that has been determined to include a turbulence value that is greater than a first threshold value. The display presents the first display icons when associated cells are selected for display from the three-dimensional buffer.

Single silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafer accelerometer fabrication

US Patent 8,057,690
November 15, 2011
Methods for creating at least one micro-electromechanical (MEMS) structure in a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafer. The SOI wafer with an extra layer of oxide is etched according to a predefined pattern. A layer of oxide is deposited over exposed surfaces. An etchant selectively removes the oxide to expose the SOI wafer substrate. A portion of the SOI substrate under at least one MEMS structure is removed, thereby releasing the MEMS structure to be used in the formation of an accelerometer.

Systems and methods for preparing ground-based weather radar information for use in an installation

US Patent 8,054,214
November 8, 2011
Systems and methods prepare ground-based supplemental weather radar information for integration with onboard weather radar information. An exemplary embodiment receives ground-based weather radar information from a ground-based weather radar station, the ground-based weather radar information referenced in a first coordinate system; generates supplemental weather radar information from the received ground-based weather radar information, wherein the supplemental weather radar information is referenced to a second coordinate system based upon at least latitude and longitude; and communicates the supplemental weather radar information, wherein the communicated supplemental weather radar information is integrated with weather radar information of an onboard weather radar system of an installation vehicle.

Mitigation of high stress areas in vertically offset structures

US Patent 8,053,265
November 8, 2011
Alternative methods of constructing a vertically offset structure are disclosed. An embodiment includes forming a flexible layer having first and second end portions, an intermediate portion coupling the first and second portions, and upper and lower surfaces. The distance between the upper and lower surfaces at the intermediate portion is less than the distance between the upper and lower surfaces at the first and second end portions. The first end portion is bonded to a base member. The second end portion of the flexible layer is deflected until the second end portion contacts the base member. The second end portion is bonded to the base member.

Pepper corer

US Patent D647,765
November 1, 2011
The ornamental design for the pepper corer, as shown.

Systems and methods for securing portions of a cord

US Patent 8,042,232
October 25, 2011
Systems and methods are operable to secure a coiled portion of an electrical cord, a cable, or a rope. An exemplary embodiment has a coil securing portion with an interior surface, a collapsing portion joined with the coil securing portion, and a means for securing the coil retainer in a collapsed position. The coil securing portion and the collapsing portion cooperatively define a substantially tubular interior region and an opening, wherein the interior region is configured to receive a coil portion inserted through the opening when the coil retainer is in an open position. The coiled portion is frictionally secured by the interior surface of the coil securing portion when the coil retainer is secured in the collapsed position.

Method and system for directed documentation of construction projects

US Patent 8,041,650
October 18, 2011
Methods and systems for directed creation of construction documentation are provided. Example embodiments provide a Directed Documentation System (a “DDS”), which directs, in a computer-assisted manner, the creation of a historical record of a portion or an entire construction project. In one embodiment, the DDS comprises a directed construction data organization process/component, a directed documentation data acquisition process/component, a construction documentation data retrieval process/component, and a construction documentation data distribution process/component. These components cooperate to direct the documentation of a construction project in a manner that insures that all desired aspects of the project are documented thoroughly and uniformly. This abstract is provided to comply with rules requiring an abstract, and it is submitted with the intention that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.

Snap-fit measuring spoon

US Patent D646,989
October 18, 2011
The ornamental design for the snap-fit measuring spoon, as shown and described.

Systems and methods for alerting to traffic proximity in the airport environment

US Patent 8,040,259
October 18, 2011
Systems and methods for alerting to traffic proximity in the airport environment. Knowledge of the geographic position, speed, rate of change of speed, heading (or track-angle) and/or altitude of own-aircraft (or vehicle) and another, potentially conflicting aircraft (or vehicle) are used to calculate a predicted distance between the two aircraft (or vehicles) at given point of time in the future. If separation distance is predicted to be less than a predetermined acceptable value, then an alert message (aural, visual or both) is issued to the pilot or operator of the vehicle.
