Apparatus, systems and methods for remote control learning
US Patent 8,618,917
December 31, 2013
Device control systems and methods learn to control an electronic device. An exemplary embodiment has a base device and a learning remote control. The learning remote control receives a device command signal transmitted from a remote control that controls the controlled electronic device. The base device receives a first identifier associated with a first input interface of the learning remote control, a second identifier associated with a second input interface of the learning remote control, and device control information from the learning remote control, wherein the received device control information includes information corresponding to the device command signal. The base device determines device instruction code information enabling the learning remote control to generate and transmit an emulated device command signal that is substantially the same as the device command signal when the learning remote control receives signals generated by the first input interface and the second input interface
Media content device chassis with internal extension members
US Patent 8,619,427
December 31, 2013
A media content receiving device, such as a set top box, includes a chassis that incorporates a heat bridge, a heat shield or both. The heat bridge may take the form of a structural wall coupled to, but preferably integrated with, the chassis to facilitate conductive heat transfer into a chassis panel. The heat bridge may be configured to receive heat radiated from a chip having a die to be cooled. The heat shield may take the form of a wall-type structure protruding from a chassis panel. For example, the heat shield may extend from a top panel of the chassis in a fin-like or flange-like manner to provide a thermal barrier between adjacent electrical components arranged on a circuit board. While the heat shield protects the adjacent component from potential thermal damage or degradation, it may also operate to transfer heat into the chassis.
Motorized transport vehicle for a pedestrian
US Patent
December 31, 2013
Autonomous and lightweight vehicle intended to transport a city dweller combined with the use of public transportation. Formed by one motorized wheel on which the user maintains, through speed, his or her lateral balance, and longitudinal balance is ensured by automatic functioning driven by an accelerometer. The footrests and the guide supports that tightly hold the leg are retractable. Driving does not require the use of the hands. The entire device goes into a bag, e.g. a backpack, and weighs less than 4 kg.
Stackable container apparatus and methods
US Patent RE44,656
December 24, 2013
A stackable container assembly includes a lid portion having first raised members projecting outwardly from an upper surface, at least some of the first raised members cooperatively forming first receiving areas, and a base portion coupleable to the lid portion and forming a containment space. The base portion includes second raised members projecting outwardly from a lower surface, at least some of the second raised members cooperatively forming second receiving areas being adapted to fittingly receive first raised members of a like container assembly positioned below the lower surface. And, the first receiving areas are adapted to fittingly receive second raised members of another like container assembly positioned above the upper surface.
Ablated object region determining apparatuses and methods
US Patent 8,600,719
December 3, 2013
Ablated object region determining apparatuses and methods for determining an ablated object region for ablating an object of interest are provided. A user can set an orientation and position of an ablation element with respect to a geometrical representation of the object of interest, at least one energy influencing element and a spatial relationship between the object of interest and the at least one energy influencing element. A model ablation region retrieving unit retrieves a model ablation region depending on the respective set orientation and position of the ablation element from a model ablation region storing unit. An ablated object region determining unit determines at least one of a) an ablated object region of the object of interest being located within the retrieved model ablation region and b) a non-ablated object region of the object of interest being located outside the retrieved model ablation region.
System and method for distributing advertisements to third-party SMS content providers
US Patent 8,600,415
December 3, 2013
Methods, apparatuses and systems enabling delivery of advertising to third-party short message service (SMS) content providers. An SMS content provider sends a request to an ad server for an advertisement to append to an outgoing mobile terminated message. The ad server retrieves an advertisement from the ad database that meets available character constraints as well as targeting parameters based on user area code, time, content-channel, and content of the message. If targeting parameters are satisfied, the ad server sends advertisement to SMS content provider to append to outgoing message. The ad server sends receipt of delivery to reporting database. Methods, apparatuses and systems are described for retrieving advertisements for delivery to mobile users, tracking retrieval of advertisements, and receiving compensation in exchange for advertisement distribution. Methods, apparatuses and systems are described for creating text-based advertisements, setting targeting parameters, and viewing ad delivery reports across third-party SMS content affiliates.
Vegetable cutter
US Patent 8,596,192
December 3, 2013
A container includes an internal plate having slicing blade supported by a lower container and covered by a lid. A threaded axle is connected to a hand crank extending from the top of the lid and urges a pusher downward toward the blade as the crank is turned. A food item carried on the pusher is thereby forced downward and rotated against the blade and cut in accordance with the size of the threads on the axle. Additional interchangeable plates are provided, including cheese grating and juice reaming plates.
NLP-based entity recognition and disambiguation
US Patent 8,594,996
November 26, 2013
Methods and systems for entity recognition and disambiguation using natural language processing techniques are provided. Example embodiments provide an entity recognition and disambiguation system (ERDS) and process that, based upon input of a text segment, automatically determines which entities are being referred to by the text using both natural language processing techniques and analysis of information gleaned from contextual data in the surrounding text. In at least some embodiments, supplemental or related information that can be used to assist in the recognition and/or disambiguation process can be retrieved from knowledge repositories such as an ontology knowledge base. In one embodiment, the ERDS comprises a linguistic analysis engine, a knowledge analysis engine, and a disambiguation engine that cooperate to identify candidate entities from a knowledge repository and determine which of the candidates best matches the one or more detected entities in a text segment using context information.
Forkpocketed tank container
