Apparatus, systems and methods for electrical power generation from heat
US Patent 8,957,298
February 17, 2015
Systems and methods are operable to generate electric power from heat. Embodiments employ one or more direct thermal electric converters that have at least a first recombination material having a first recombination rate, a second recombination material adjacent to the first recombination material and having a second recombination rate, wherein the second recombination rate is different from the first recombination rate, and a third recombination material adjacent to the second recombination material and having a third recombination rate substantially the same as the first recombination rate. Application of heat generates at least first charge carriers that migrate between the first recombination material and the second recombination material, and generates at least second charge carriers that migrate between the third recombination material and the second recombination material. The migration of the first charge carriers and the migration of the second charge carriers generates an electrical current.
Cookie decorating tool
US Patent 8,956,138
February 17, 2015
A cookie decorating tool includes a main body having attachment points for a plurality of decorating tool heads. In one version, the tool heads are in the form of one or more interchangeable stamps or rollers, each having a different design that may be imparted onto cookie dough to leave an impression prior to baking.
Backpack with side bolsters
US Patent 8,955,729
February 17, 2015
A backpack includes a stabilizing and ventilating side bolsters coupled to a frame. The side bolsters are secured to the frame by being received in sleeves or by straps having clips disposed through slots in the side bolsters. A particular side bolster includes at least one channel to allow air flow away from the back side of the wearer. The side bolster is comprised of high-density foam to stabilize the backpack under load while providing improved ventilation. The side bolsters have a center axis that is spatially separated in a forward direction from a surface of the frame to allow the side bolsters to contour around the back side of the wearer. The side bolsters may be formed for a particular environment, body type, or loads to be carried in the backpack by changing the stiffness, density, material, dimensions or other aspects of the side bolsters.
Generating secure roaming user profiles over a network
US Patent 8,955,050
February 10, 2015
Embodiments are directed to providing access to a resource over a network. A client device may request access to a server. An application may be provided to the client device. The application may cause control of the client device to be switched from a first desktop to a secure desktop. The secure desktop may be configured to restrict applications access to within the secure desktop. An indication of the resource on the server to map to may be received at the client device. The indicated resource may be mapped onto a file system on the client device. Mapping may comprise using a remote file access protocol, using DLL injection, or adding a kernel module to an operating system on the client device. The mapped resource may be constrained to be accessed through the secure desktop.
Apparatus, systems and methods for a media device pre-operation
US Patent 8,955,003
February 10, 2015
Systems and methods are operable to perform pre-operations at a media device in anticipation of an occurrence of a user action. An exemplary embodiment receives an in-use signal from an electronic device that is remotely proximate to the media device, wherein the received in-use signal corresponds to a user interaction with the electronic device; and performs the pre-operation at the media device. The pre-operation is performed prior to receiving an initial user action configured to operate at least one of the media device and a media presentation device coupled to the media device.
Method and apparatus for dynamic power management
US Patent 8,954,764
February 10, 2015
An integrated circuit (IC) includes a first power supply node that is arranged to receive a first power supply signal. The IC also includes process detection circuits. Each process detection circuit provides a process detection output signal such that a value associated with the process detection output signal is a function of process variation at a location of the process detection circuit outputting the process detection signal. The IC also includes a processing unit that executes processor-executable instructions to provide at least one voltage control signal, based, at least in part, on the process detection signals. The voltage control signal(s) include a first voltage control signal is associated with a target voltage for the first power supply signal.
Query templates and labeled search tip system, methods, and techniques
US Patent 8,954,469
February 10, 2015
Methods, systems, and techniques for creating, managing, and using query templates to facilitate the execution of relationship queries are provided. Example embodiments provide a Query Template System “QTS”, which enables users, a system, program code, or other people or code to define search tips (i.e., predefined searches) through the generation of query templates that can be used by other users or code, to perform relationship searches using IQL. In one embodiment, the QTS includes a QT editor, a QT dispatcher, a QT creation and index management system, and one or more QT data repositories and indexes. These components cooperate to create and maintain query templates and to search for and retrieve matching query templates.
RF resistant feedthrough assembly and electrical stimulation systems containing the assembly
US Patent 8,954,151
February 10, 2015
A control module for an electrical stimulation system includes a casing having an electrically-conductive portion; an electronic subassembly disposed in the casing; and a header portion coupled to the casing and including a connector for a lead or lead extension. The control module also includes a feedthrough assembly coupling the casing to the header portion. The feedthrough assembly includes a non-conductive ceramic block; conductive feedthrough pins passing through the ceramic block and electrically coupling the connector to the electronic subassembly disposed in the casing; a metal flange disposed around, and attached to, the ceramic block, and a non-conductive spacer attached to the metal flange and to the casing to raise the ceramic block above, and away from, the casing. Other control modules include a ceramic block that has a rim portion that raises the plate portion, through which the feedthrough pins pass, of the block away from the casing.
Font emulation in embedded systems
US Patent 8,953,182
February 10, 2015
A system for printing a document when it includes one or more target fonts that are emulated with at least one substitute font suitable for printing on a printing device. The substitute font appears visually similar to the target font, substantially preserves the original pagination and line breaks of the provided document, and the printing device is capable of printing the substitute font. A table is provided that lists strategies/logic for enabling the printing device to emulate each of a plurality of predetermined target fonts with a substitute font. These emulation strategies may include but are not limited to, identifying at least one of a resident font for the printing device, stretchable font, local font, or downloadable font to be substituted for the non-resident target font in the provided document.
