Prioritized repair of data storage failures
US Patent 9,075,773
July 7, 2015
Embodiments are directed towards managing data storage that may experience a data failure. If a repair event is associated with a data storage failure, a new repair task may be generated and added to a task list. A priority value for each repair task in the task list may be determined based in part on the mean-time-to-data-loss (MTTDL) value associated with each repair task in the task list such that a lower MTTDL may indicate a higher priority value over a lower MTTDL. One or more repair tasks may be promoted to become active repair tasks based on the priority value the repair tasks such that the promoted repair tasks have a higher priority that than other repair tasks in the task list, if any. Each active repair task may be executed to repair one or more associated the storage failures.
Nicked or gapped nucleic acid molecules and uses thereof
US Patent 9,074,205
July 7, 2015
The present disclosure provides meroduplex (nicked or gapped) ribonucleic acid molecules (mdRNA) that decreases or silences target gene expression. An mdRNA of this disclosure comprises at least three strands that combine to form at least two non-overlapping double-stranded regions separated by a nick or gap wherein one strand is complementary to a target gene RNA. In addition, the meroduplex may have one or more modifications or substitutions, such as nucleotide base, sugar, terminal cap structure, internucleotide linkage, or any combination of such modifications. Also provided are methods of decreasing expression of a target gene in a cell or in a subject to treat a disease related to altered expression of a target gene.
Boat with active suspension system
US Patent 9,073,605
July 7, 2015
A boat having a deck and a hull includes a suspension for suspending the deck with respect to the hull. Sensors are employed to determine motion of the deck, with a controller adjusting the suspension such that it maintains the pose of the deck with respect to an inertial reference and with respect to pitch, roll, and heave of the deck.
Clinician programmer system and method for steering volumes of activation
US Patent 9,072,905
July 7, 2015
A system and method for selection of stimulation parameters for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) may include a processor that displays in a display device and in relation to a displayed model of a leadwire including model electrodes, a current field corresponding to a first stimulation parameter set, provides a user interface for receipt of user input representing a shift of the current field, in response to the user input, moves, in the display device, the current field with respect to the displayed model, determines a second stimulation parameter set that results in the moved current field, and outputs the second stimulation parameter set and/or sets a stimulation device with the second stimulation parameter set, where the stimulation device is configured for performing a stimulation using the leadwire in accordance with the second stimulation parameter set.
Limb-support assembly for use with an assistive device
US Patent 9,072,649
July 7, 2015
A limb-support assembly for use with an assistive device includes a weight-bearing member having a first edge. The weight-bearing member includes a planar receiving surface configured for receiving a user’s lower limb. A mounting assembly is configured for removably coupling the weight-bearing member to an assistive device. The mounting assembly includes a first mounting brace extending outwardly from the first edge of the weight-bearing member and above the receiving surface. A mounting aperture is defined in the weight-bearing member between the first mounting brace and the receiving surface. The mounting aperture is configured for receiving a portion of the assistive device. When a portion of the assistive device is received by the mounting aperture, and when weight is placed on the receiving surface, the first mounting brace is configured to press against an opposing side of the assistive device from the receiving surface.
Transceiver supporting multiple modulation schemes
US Patent 9,071,289
June 30, 2015
The present application relates to a transceiver for use in a communications system that uses magnetic field induction to transmit data, the transceiver having an amplifier for driving an antenna, the amplifier forming, with a capacitance and a resistance connected in parallel with the antenna, a parallel resonant circuit. The resistance value of the resistance is adjustable, to permit adjustment of the loaded quality factor of the parallel resonant circuit. The transceiver includes a processing unit configured to determine the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of a signal received by the transceiver, and based on this SNR select a modulation scheme to apply to a data signal to be transmitted by the transceiver. The value of the resistance is adjusted to a level at which the loaded quality factor of the parallel resonant circuit is able to support the bandwidth and data rate required by the selected modulation scheme.
Electronic device audio volume reduction in response to audio communication request
US Patent 9,071,218
June 23, 2015
Presented is a method of facilitating use of an audio communication device, such as a telephone, in the presence of an electronic device capable of generating sound, such as a television or audio receiver. In the method, a message is received from the audio communication device, wherein the message indicates the audio communication device has received a request for an audio communication, such as a telephone call, from a second audio communication device. In response to receiving the message, an audio volume of the electronic device is reduced.
Managing font metrics for a rendering device
US Patent 9,063,682
June 23, 2015
A system for printing a document that includes one or more target fonts that are emulated with at least one substitute font in a manner that preserves the original pagination and line breaks of the document. A table is provided that lists strategies/logic for enabling the printing device to emulate each of a plurality of predetermined target fonts with a substitute font. These emulation strategies may include but are not limited to, identifying at least one of a resident font for the printing device, stretchable font, local font, downloadable font, font data provided by a 3.sup.rd party, or font data that is embedded in a received document. Target font metrics may be employed as “hints” to refine emulation information for the target font data.
Vehicular threat detection based on image analysis
US Patent 9,064,152
June 23, 2015
Techniques for ability enhancement are described. Some embodiments provide an ability enhancement facilitator system (“AEFS”) configured to enhance a user’s ability to operate or function in a transportation-related context as a pedestrian or a vehicle operator. In one embodiment, the AEFS is configured perform vehicular threat detection based at least in part on analyzing image data. An example AEFS receives data that represents an image of a vehicle. The AEFS analyzes the received data to determine vehicular threat information, such as that the vehicle may collide with the user. The AEFS then informs the user of the determined vehicular threat information, such as by transmitting a warning to a wearable device configured to present the warning to the user.
