Bob Bergstrom is a registered patent attorney who has written and prosecuted well over a thousand patent applications in a diverse range of fields, including computing (operating systems, compilers, networking, database management systems, virtualization, cloud-computing management, image processing, convex and non-convex optimization, machine control, scientific and applied-mathematics applications, data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, error-control coding, cryptography, video and audio encoding, signal processing, distributed computing); computer hardware and electronics (processor architecture, network controllers, nanoscale circuitry, molecular electronics, data-storage devices, distributed computer systems); semiconductors and integrated circuits;  scientific instruments (optical microscopy, sub-diffraction-limit fluorescence microscopy, nanopore DNA sequencers, microarrays, medical-imaging systems); structural and computational biology; pharmaceuticals, biochemistry and chemistry; medical devices; materials science; mechanical systems; and physics.

Bob received a B.S. in molecular and cellular biology and a B.A. in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Washington, an M.S. in computer science and a Ph.D. in biochemistry (x-ray crystallography) from the University of Wisconsin, and a J.D. from the University of California at Berkely.

Bob’s interests and activities have included scuba diving, flying, skydiving, white-water kayaking, rock climbing, mountaineering, skate-skiing, motorcycling, target shooting, reading Russian-language novels and historical and autobiographical books, and continued study of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biochemistry.  Bob worked for many years in scientific research and software engineering prior to law school, and has taught biochemistry, computer science, and law at the community-college and university levels
